A Bit About The Cities History And The Future
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.5 square miles of which 8.4 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles or 0.82%, is water. Known as the Western and Atlantic Railroad, 20 miles of track was in operation from Terminus (Atlanta) to Cartersville by 1846. Several small towns were founded along the railroad including Vinings, Smyrna, Acworth and Big Shanty.
