About Decatur
Decatur is a wonderful town inside the perimeter of Atlanta, Dekalb County, that has been recently known as more of an up-and-coming artsy community. With tons of historical sites and wonderful restaurants, this is a lovely city for anyone looking to enjoy city life! Although originally a major site for General Sherman’s dark plans against the city of Atlanta, Decatur rose to popularity in the twentieth century. Known for community involvement, Decatur’s unofficial motto is “It’s greater in Decatur,” officially the motto is “A city of homes, schools and places of worship.”
With such a strong sense of community, it should be no surprise that there are lots of independent locals shops in restaurants in the area. In addition, there is plenty to do throughout the year with events and festivals such as the annual Decatur Arts Festival, Decatur Stirs, Decatur Beach Party, Decatur BBQ, Blues & Bluegrass Festival, The Decatur Book Festival, the Decatur Maker Faire, The Decatur Beer Festival and the Decatur Wine Festival.
There are several points of interest in Decatur, like the Clairemont Historic District, Cora Beck Hampton Schoolhouse and House, the Old Dekalb County Courthouse, Fraser House, High House, the Ponce de Leon Historic District, and more!
